Biography — Carol Talkov

Carol Talkov is a mosaicist working primarily in stone, smalti glass, minerals, and gems. Her works range from representative to evocative; her subjects typically drawn from nature or place.

Carol was educated at Boston's Emerson College and Brandeis University, where she studied theatrical design. She enhanced her mosaic skills studying abroad at prestigious schools and studios in Italy: Orsoni Mosaic School (Venice), Koko Mosaico Studio (Ravenna), and La Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (Spilimbergo). There, she was introduced to everything from classic mosaic composition techniques of the early Byzantine era to modern contemporary mosaics.

A successful business owner and manufacturer, Carol operated the well-regarded Carol Studios Inc. for 27 years in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Her nuanced fabric and drapery sensibility, informed by an earlier career in NYC as a theatrical costume fabricator, made her a sought-after design partner and consultant around the world. Her work has been shown in House Beautiful, Southern Accents, and Architectural Digest, among others.

Carol resides and works in northern Virginia.
